TALQ: The International Standard for Smart Public Lighting
The TALQ protocol is a global standard for exchanging data between different smart lighting systems. This protocol is developed and maintained by the TALQ Consortium, an international foundation with more than 71 affiliated companies. In addition to suppliers, cities and consulting firms can also be involved as partners in TALQ.
Luminext’s Active Role in TALQ
To maximize the benefits of TALQ, Luminext is actively involved in the consortium. We are a member of the Steering Committee and contribute to the further development of the protocol. Additionally, our colleague Robert Tissing, as chairman of the General Assembly, plays a key role in collaboration with other TALQ members. Luminext sets a good example itself: our products are TALQ-certified and therefore comply with the international standard for smart lighting.
The Benefits of TALQ for Municipalities and Provinces
In recent years, Luminext has integrated more than 15 different smart lighting technologies into our Luminizer platform. Managing all these connections is a challenge. By applying the TALQ standard, linking systems becomes easier and more effectively supported.
For municipalities and provinces, this means they are free to choose which systems they want to use, without being tied to a single supplier. To use the TALQ protocol, both the hardware (smart lighting system) and the control software must be certified. The hardware functions as the ‘TALQ Gateway’ and the software as the ‘TALQ CMS’ (Central Management System).
