News

In ‘News,’ you’ll find all the ‘essential updates’ for everyone in the public lighting industry.

The Municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland has been using smart technology for its street lighting for over 10 years. It stands out due to its consistent policy implementation and the use of advanced technologies. This approach enables the municipality to manage its complex public lighting infrastructure in a future-proof, efficient, and effective manner. The municipality’s comprehensive strategy is reflected in a series of initiatives and projects, such as managing light poles, power cabinets, and underground cables and pipelines. Currently, 75% of its street lighting is smart.

In village centers and along main roads, smart LED lighting is used, which can be monitored and controlled remotely. This not only enhances the ambiance in city centers but also reduces energy consumption and improves safety through automatic fault detection. Additionally, power cabinets are equipped with connectivity, ensuring optimal registration and better management of these assets. Other noteworthy applications include the Transferium in Renesse and P1 in Zierikzee, where the lights brighten when there is traffic and dim when it is quiet—a solution that is both convenient and energy-efficient!

Through the full integration of IT systems across the entire management and maintenance chain, the municipality has real-time insights into the performance of its public lighting assets. The Central Light Management System (CLMS) allows the municipality to control and manage dynamic light points from various systems, such as those by Signify, Luminext, and Remoticom, all from a single application. The municipality also demonstrates its ability to keep up with market standards by adopting technologies such as Zhaga, D4i, and the Talq protocol. This makes the Municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland a true leader in the Netherlands and a well-deserved winner of the Smart Lighting Award 2024.

The award will be presented by Robert Tissing to Mrs. Jacqueline van Burg, Alderman for Public Space in the Municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland.
